Avengers Fairy Tales #4

Avengers Fairy Tales #4

As if killing Captain America wasn't bad enough, now Marvel has turned him into the Cowardly Lion:

When young Jennifer Walters is swept away and carried to the mysterious land Oz, she discovers that turning green is only the beginning of her troubles. But she follows the Rainbow Road and encounters a familiar cast of characters more in need of help than her; a rusty old Iron Man in need of a heart, a scarecrow whose lost his hammer and maybe his mind, and a brave old warrior who simply needs to find his courage. And just when they thought things couldn't get any worse, the Scarlet Witch of the West arrives to utter three ominous words... "No More Munchkins!”

Upside: Judy Garland turning into a big green amazon. Check out Avengers Fairy Tales #4 in June.

Re: "cowardly" Captain America

To be fair, if I recall the old Judy Garland movie version of The Wizard of Oz correctly, (I'm not so familiar with the books, myself), wasn't it sort of the whole idea that each of the four "searchers" already had whatever they wanted within themselves, and just couldn't see it? i.e. Watching the movie, it's clear that the supposedly brainless scarecrow is the one who comes up with the most ideas, and the "heartless" Tin Man is the one who is the most overtly emotional.

Making Cap into the Lion probably means they think that he is indeed one of the bravest characters there is in the Marvel Comics stable, it's just that he (or his lion simulacrum) can't see it himself for the duration of this story.

Although yeah, I'm not sure how well this argument really extends to Thor or Iron Man...
