She-Hulk Cartoon

This is from the 1996 Incredible Hulk cartoon series.

Hulk '96 cartoon

For the most part I enjoyed this short-lived (2 seasons, I think) series, but I had not expected them to bring Jennifer into the picture, so I was surprised when I saw previews for the then-next episode and it would feature the origin of She-Hulk.

After it was over I thought about what I had just seen and found that I actually liked what the cartoon had done. The changes to her origin were understandable for the direction of the series and were, in my mind at least, an improvement over the original comic (and better than her origin in the 80s Hulk 'toon, as well). Lisa Zane's voice acting was very good, especially during this initial transformation scene. Although I would have loved to see a good clothes-ripping TF I still liked her muscle development and the nice shadow animation of her growing larger. Why was she wearing that stupid outfit, though, except to give her a "uniform"? That part I didn't care for.

This had been the second-best mainstream animated SH transformation around (the one from the 80s with Jen & Bruce and the experiment gone wrong being the best) until the recent Fantastic Four cartoon. What's ironic to me is that latest transformation scene has some provacative growth and clothes ripping that was left out of the '96 cartoon, but both shows are targeted more towards children than adults. Anyway, "Doomed" and "Fantastic Fourtitude" are the best SH episodes from the '96 show. I didn't care for Cree Summer's voice acting or how She-Hulk was utilized in the second season.

Depiction

I don't think I've seen any of the episodes for the '96 Hulk series - just snippets I've found online. In general I've found the Marvel cartoons productions to be almost uniformly cheap in terms of production values.
